How sourcing statements are handled

We maintain international supplier relationships for cultured South Sea, Tahitian and Akoya pearls. A country, region or producer is stated for an item only when the current product record supports that statement. A relationship-level sourcing statement does not establish item-level provenance.

How we assess products

We review the product factors that apply to the item, including luster, surface, shape, color, size and matching. Any A, AA or AAA notation is a seller-specific product grade. It is not a universal scale or an independent laboratory conclusion; the written criteria in the current product record control.

Documentation

Documentation varies by item. The current product page states whether seller-issued documentation is included and which fields it records. Seller-issued documentation is separate from an independent laboratory report. We describe a laboratory report only when the laboratory and report identifier are stated.
