Frequently asked questions
Are Tahitian pearls naturally dark?
Yes. The color comes from the nacre layers of Pinctada margaritifera, deposited by the oyster as the pearl grows. There is no dye or treatment involved in our pearls. Each piece ships with origin certificate.
How does AAA grading work for Tahitian pearls?
AAA Tahitian pearls have surface 95%+ clean, mirror luster (you can see your reflection), near-round to round shape, and uniform overtone. AA pearls have 85%+ clean surface and high (but not mirror) luster. A grade has visible imperfections and lower luster.
Are these pearls drilled or undrilled?
Both available. Drilled pearls have a 0.8mm hole standard; we can drill to 1.0mm or 1.2mm for thicker silk or beading wire. Undrilled pearls let you (or your jeweler) decide drill placement.

Tahitian pearls come from Pinctada margaritifera, the black-lipped oyster native to French Polynesia, primarily from the Mangareva and Marutea atolls where our family has sourced for over thirty years. The pieces in this collection are hand-graded against the AAA-AA-A scale: surface clean to 95%+ for AAA, 85%+ for AA, with mirror luster the defining marker of AAA. Single pearls and wholesale lots for custom jewelers, designers, and pearl collectors. Drilled or undrilled on request. Hand-graded per the AAA-AA-A scale. Tahitian pearls range $80-2,000+ per pearl depending on size, grade, and overtone; the deepest peacock and silver-blue tones command 20-40% premium.
